Venus Retrograde in Libra (3 Oct 2026 – 6 Nov 2026)

Venus turns direct on 14 November 2026

Last month I wrote about Venus moving through Libra. Now Venus turns retrograde on 3 October 2026 at 14°21′ Libra, beginning a period of review in relationships, agreements, money matters, creativity, and, above all, what we truly value.

Venus remains retrograde in Libra until 6 November 2026, and then it moves back into Virgo, the sign of its debilitation, where the retrograde continues until Venus turns direct on 14 November at 28°43′ Virgo.

Venus rules Libra, and the first part of the sign is its moolatrikona, so this is normally a strong and comfortable place for the planet of love, affection, marriage, pleasure, beauty, creativity, and harmony. But when Venus turns retrograde, I do not look at these matters in quite the same way. A retrograde asks us to pause.

Something that appeared settled may need another look. A relationship may require a conversation, an old connection may return, or a financial decision may need reviewing. We may even find that something we wanted very strongly a few months ago no longer has the same attraction.

My advice during this period is simple: do not rush to decide what something is worth. Give it time.

Key Dates

Dates are in New Zealand Daylight Time (sidereal zodiac, KP ayanamsa).

Date Event
3 Oct Venus turns retrograde at 14°21′ Libra, in Swati (Rahu’s nakshatra)
24 Oct The heart of the retrograde: the Sun and Venus conjoin at 6°39′ Libra, Venus moves back into Chitra (Mars’s nakshatra), and Mercury turns retrograde in Libra
6 Nov Venus, still retrograde, re-enters Virgo (debilitated)
14 Nov Venus turns direct at 28°43′ Virgo; Mercury also turns direct

A Time to Review Relationships

Relationships are one of the main areas governed by Venus. During a Venus retrograde, old connections sometimes return, and unfinished matters of the heart can resurface. This does not automatically mean that an old relationship should begin again.  Sometimes a person returns because there is something still to understand. Sometimes the relationship itself has changed. Sometimes we have changed. And sometimes the only thing required is closure.

If somebody from the past reappears, I would not immediately ask, “Is this person meant to come back into my life?” I would first ask:

Why has this come back into my mind or my life now?

That question may be more useful. Relationships also develop habits. Over time we learn what to discuss, what to avoid, who normally compromises, and who usually keeps quiet. Venus retrograde can bring some of these patterns to our attention.

Libra seeks harmony, but harmony does not mean avoiding every difficult subject. Peace that depends upon one person continually suppressing what they feel is not true balance. At the same time, constantly insisting on our own way is not balance either. The lesson of Libra is to find a middle path where both people can be heard.

What Do We Truly Value?

Venus represents much more than romantic love. It also represents value: money, possessions, comforts, beauty, and the things that give us enjoyment. But value is not always measured in dollars.

As we move through life, what we consider important changes. Something that once represented success may no longer matter very much, and a possession that once seemed essential may lose its attraction. At the same time, things we once took for granted, such as peace of mind, family, companionship, health, time, or spiritual understanding, may become far more valuable. A Venus retrograde can help us recognise this change.

Before making an important purchase or commitment, ask yourself:

  • Do I really need this?
  • Will I still value it after the excitement has passed?
  • Am I choosing it because it gives me genuine satisfaction, or because I want others to see me in a particular way?

I usually advise my clients to be careful with major purchases during Venus retrograde, because the true worth of something may become clearer only after Venus moves forward again. That does not mean we should become fearful about spending money. It means we should spend consciously.

Love and Attachment

There is also a deeper lesson here. We naturally become attached to people, places, and things, and there is nothing wrong with this. We live through relationships and responsibilities.

But attachment can sometimes create fear. We may fear losing a relationship, financial security, status, comfort, or something familiar. And when fear enters, our judgement can change. We may hold on too tightly, accept what we would normally question, worry excessively about small changes in another person’s behaviour, or try to control a situation simply because uncertainty makes us uncomfortable.

At such times I think the better question is

Am I acting from love, or am I acting from fear?

The answer may not always be obvious. This is why a retrograde is useful: it gives us time to observe before we act.

Venus and Self-Worth

Venus also has something to teach us about our own sense of worth. Most of us appreciate affection, appreciation, and recognition. That is natural. The problem begins when our peace depends entirely upon receiving them.

If another person praises us, we feel happy; if they do not, we begin questioning ourselves. If someone agrees with us, we feel secure; if they disagree, we take it personally. Venus retrograde may help us see where we have given too much power to the opinion of others.

Relationships should enrich our lives, but they should not make us forget who we are. The same principle applies to money and possessions: what we own may make life comfortable, but it cannot by itself give us inner contentment.

Money, Agreements, and Purchases

Venus also signifies money, agreements, and negotiation. This makes the retrograde period useful for reviewing:

  • financial commitments and major purchases
  • contracts and agreements
  • spending habits and luxury expenses
  • joint financial arrangements
  • home decoration or beautification
  • older financial decisions that may need adjustment

Read the small print and ask questions. If something can wait, there is no harm in allowing a little more time. An attractive offer is not necessarily a bad offer, but attraction should not replace judgement.

Take particular care after 6 November, when Venus slips back into Virgo, its sign of debilitation, and turns direct close to its point of deepest fall. Strain in money matters and agreements is more likely in these final days of the retrograde.

Creativity Can Return

Venus is also the planet of creativity. For writers, artists, musicians, and anyone involved in creative work, a Venus retrograde can be very useful. An older idea may come back, something unfinished may suddenly make sense, or a project that did not work the first time may improve after revision.

This is one of the positive sides of retrograde motion. We often think progress means constantly producing something new. It does not. Sometimes progress means returning to something old with greater understanding. Reviewing, editing, and refining can be more valuable than rushing to begin another project.

Mercury Retrograde Adds to the Review

Mercury is also in Libra during this period and turns retrograde on 24 October, so from then until 5 November both Venus and Mercury are retrograde in Libra. This makes communication particularly important.

A conversation may have to be repeated, a message may be misunderstood, or something we thought was agreed may turn out to mean something different to the other person. Do not assume. Ask, confirm, and, where something is important, put it in writing.

The Bhagavad Gītā gives beautiful guidance on speech:

Bhagavad Gītā, Chapter 17, Shloka 15

anudvega-karaṁ vākyaṁ satyaṁ priya-hitaṁ ca yat

Speech should be truthful, pleasant, and beneficial and should not unnecessarily disturb others.

I can think of a few better principles for dealing with relationships during a Venus and Mercury retrograde.

The Nakshatras: Rahu, then Mars

Venus turns retrograde in Swati, the nakshatra ruled by Rahu. Rahu can magnify whatever it touches. It can make attraction stronger, create fascination, and make something unusual appear particularly desirable. This can be exciting, but it can also make it harder to judge a situation objectively.

A person may appear exceptionally charming, a relationship may develop very quickly, a purchase may feel irresistible, or an opportunity may look perfect. Enjoy what comes, but give it time. Not everything that attracts us strongly is meant to remain permanently in our lives. Sometimes Rahu gives us an experience so that we can learn something from it.

From 24 October, Venus moves back into Chitra, the nakshatra ruled by Mars. Mars is currently debilitated in Cancer, so in these weeks feelings can turn into impatience or irritation more quickly than usual, especially in close relationships. Chitra is also the nakshatra of Vishvakarma, the divine craftsman, which makes it a good period for careful creative work, design, and repair.

A Spiritual View of Desire

For me, the deeper lesson of Venus retrograde is not that we should reject desire. Desire is part of human life. The question is whether desire controls us.

Bhagavad Gītā, Chapter 2, Shloka 70

āpūryaṇāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṁ samudram āpaḥ praviśanti yadvat

Rivers continuously enter the ocean, yet the ocean remains full and steady. So the one whom desires enter without disturbing finds peace, not the one who chases every desire.

That is a beautiful image for this transit. Many desires will come; some will be fulfilled and some will not. People will come into our lives; some will remain and others will leave. Money will come and go, and possessions will eventually change hands. If our peace depends upon everything remaining exactly as we want it, peace will always remain fragile.

The spiritual lesson is not to stop loving. It is to love without losing our inner balance. It is not to stop enjoying life, but to enjoy without becoming a slave to enjoyment. And it is not to stop wanting things, but to understand which desires truly deserve our time and energy.

Vedic Sun Signs

The following predictions are based on your Vedic Sun sign. Please check the birth-date ranges carefully, because Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac. The dates can vary by a day from year to year and by time zone, so if you were born on a boundary date, please check your chart. If you know your Ascendant (Lagna), Moon sign or Arudha Lagna, you may read those signs as well. Each shows the transit from a different perspective.

Mesha – Aries (14 April – 14 May)

Venus retrograde moves through your seventh house, so relationships, marriage, partnerships and agreements need attention. An old disagreement may return, but that can be useful if both sides are prepared to listen.

Former partners or old connections may also reappear. Do not assume that a return automatically means a reunion; give the situation time. Mercury can help through honest communication. In business partnerships as well, clarify expectations rather than relying upon assumptions.

Vrishabh – Taurus  (15 May – 14 June)

Venus retrograde moves through your sixth house, bringing attention to work, health, routines and everyday responsibilities. You may become more aware of a habit that needs changing or a workplace issue that has been bothering you.

This is a good time to refine your routine, and Mercury can help through research, training and practical discussion. Do not worry excessively about small imperfections. Make steady improvements instead.

Mithun –  Gemini  (15 June – 15 July)

Venus retrograde moves through your fifth house of romance, creativity, children and self-expression. An old romantic interest may return, or you may reconsider what you really want from a relationship.

Creative projects can benefit from editing and refinement, and Mercury also supports writing, teaching and learning. Enjoy yourself, but do not become overly dependent upon attention or reassurance from others.

Cancer 16 July – 16 August

Venus retrograde moves through your fourth house, bringing home, family, property and emotional security into focus. You may reconsider decoration, repairs, a vehicle purchase or an unresolved family matter.   Old feelings may also surface. Try not to keep going over the past without purpose. Use this period to improve your home environment and, more importantly, your inner peace.

Simha – Leo (17 August – 16 September)

Venus retrograde through your third house asks you to review communication. A misunderstanding with a sibling, neighbour, colleague or friend may need clarification. Mercury can help with writing, learning and constructive conversation, and an old creative idea may also return. Speak clearly and avoid reading too much into every exchange.

Kanya – Virgo (17 September – 16 October)

Venus retrograde moves through your second house of finances, possessions, family and speech. A purchase may need reconsideration, and you may become more conscious of financial security. Review your spending carefully, but do not let sensible planning turn into unnecessary worry. Family communication may also improve if old misunderstandings are discussed calmly. From 6 November, Venus returns to your own sign, so the review becomes more personal.

Tula – Libra (17 October – 15 November)

Venus, the lord of your sign, retrogrades through your first house, making this a personal period of review. You may reconsider your appearance, relationships, creative direction or the way you present yourself. Be careful not to become too concerned with what others think. Ask instead whether your choices still suit the person you are today. This can be a good time for personal refinement, but avoid making changes simply because you want approval.

Vrischika – Scorpio (16 November – 15 December)

Venus retrograde through your twelfth house can make this a quieter and more reflective period. Old feelings or memories connected with relationships may return, and you may want more privacy, spiritual practice or creative time.

Expenses connected with travel or pleasure may also need review. Do not worry alone; a private conversation with someone you trust may be helpful.

Dhanu – Sagittarius (16 December – 13 January)

Venus retrograde moves through your eleventh house, so friendships, groups and long-term plans come under review. An old friend may return, or you may question whether a group or association still reflects your values. A delayed goal may require revision rather than abandonment. Mercury supports networking and discussion. Listen to good advice before changing direction.

Makar – Capricorn (14 January – 12 February)

Venus retrograde moves through your tenth house, so career, reputation and professional relationships may require another look. Recognition could be delayed, or an older workplace issue may return. Use this period to improve your presentation and review your ambitions. Do not become too worried about what others think of your progress. Diplomacy and careful communication will help.

Kumbha – Aquarius (13 February – 13 March)

Venus retrograde moves through your ninth house, encouraging you to review beliefs, education, travel and relationships with teachers or mentors. An old subject may interest you again, and travel plans may require adjustment. Keep your mind open. There is nothing wrong with changing an opinion when greater understanding becomes available.

Meena – Pisces (14 March – 13 April)

Venus retrograde moves through your eighth house, so joint finances, investments, insurance, inheritance and intimacy may require careful attention. A financial agreement may need reviewing, and an unresolved emotional issue can also return. Do not become obsessed with what you cannot control. Ask questions, examine the details and communicate honestly. This can be a useful period for understanding matters that previously remained beneath the surface.

Final Thoughts

I do not see Venus retrograde as something to fear. I see it as an opportunity to pause and reconsider.

A relationship may need adjustment. A financial decision may need another look. An old creative idea may deserve a second chance. Something we once valued may no longer be as important. And sometimes we discover that something we have taken for granted is far more precious than we realised.

The important thing is not to rush. Observe, review, speak carefully, and maintain your inner balance.

During these weeks, perhaps the most useful question is not simply:

What do I want?

But:

Is what I want truly valuable, and will it bring lasting peace?

If we can answer that honestly, Venus retrograde has already taught us something worthwhile.
